However, once fully implemented, you will be able to use AVB as an input source on your daw. Especially when you add more and more plugins, it scales significantly more poorly than using the soundgrid server.Matthewgorman wrote mamerica wroteAVB does not support WiFi. Multirack native just can't compete - significantly higher latency. My understanding is that the newer Avids don't rely on the lock key device (can't recall the name) and have improved the integration of plugins for live use - at least that's what I'm told, I've never actually seen an S3 or S6 system in use, but we still see a lot of Profiles etc coming through on tours carrying. There are several videos on youtube comparing the latency of multirack native vs using the soundgrid servers. Again this is where the external processing devices make more sense, assuming they come loaded with the plugins required by the folks using them. For those who don't also need these in a home studio like me, and who don't use any single brand of digital console regularly enough - it means I'm potentially at a disadvantage. One thing I disliked about the SC48 / older Avid plugin system, was needing the key thingy to "unlock" the plugins each BE had licences for. Also they wanted to run monitors from FOH as they didn't have a duplicate setup and wanted the same plugin fx, again this seemed far from ideal.

However they were touring with a Venice F, plus a connected laptop running several plugins on nearly every channel! I'd never seen it before, and while admittedly it worked - it looked like a kludge. I recall many years ago, a name artist came through a local venue which had just aquired an SC48. In fact as plugins for live processing become more resource intensive - I would think there are significant benefits to having a dedicated external processor connected via a proprietory system that allows it to be easily controlled from the desk. When the processing is integrated already to a degree, I don't see much distinction between having it literally onboard the desk, such as with Avid Venue consoles, or just controlled from the desk like Digico. Personally I wouldn't want to rely on an external device, even if it was my own laptop - especially when there are dedicated devices like Waves that are designed to do the job properly, ie with low latency and reliable stability. It's worth reading, and gives an idea of the latency involved. There's a thread on PSW right now, where someone has attempted to measure latency when using the built in multitrack facilities on one of the recent MI digital desks, to route the I/O to use processing plugins on a laptop. I was wondering, are there any options out there that run waves plugins natively that are relatively compact? It is significantly cheaper than the Avid consoles, but doesn't give you a physical control surface which is annoying but isn't a bad option for the price.

I'm looking for something compact - if the S3L could run the plugins then I would get that in a heartbeat, but my current option is an Waves eMotion LV1 system. So now I'm wondering, are there are any other consoles appart from Avids lineup that run waves plugins natively without having to route everything out and back in through a soundgrid server. But then I discovered that the waves plugins are not compatible with the S3L and the S3L-X. This seemed pretty amazing to me because then it doesn't require me to buy extra gear and I saw the S3L one time and it seemed like the console to to buy because of how compact and modular it is and everything else avid had to offer was way too big. But I have recently discovered the ability to use waves plugins live either with multirack native or using a soundgrid server for lower latency and better stability.īut then I discovered that the Avid consoles can run waves plugins natively on the console. So as a studio guy who does some live work, I've always been impressed with waves plugins in the studio.
